News – In the heart of Kabale District in South Western Uganda, at the top of majestic Rugarama Hill, Preparations are in full swing for the centenary celebrations of Kigezi High School of shaping the minds and serving the nation.
Some of the country’s outstanding personalities like Late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile (Former Governor of the Bank of Uganda), Ex – Prime Minister Rt Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, former Presidential candidates Dr. Kiiza Besigye, JohnPatrick Amama Mbabazi and Abed Bwanika among others studied from Kigezi High School.
As the event unfold, Two distinguished Old Boys of the school, Ex – Prime Ministers of Uganda Rt Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda and Rt Hon JohnPatrick Amama Mbabazi, alongside Minister David Bahati and Alfred Kabuchu, have taken up the mantle to oversee the meticulous planning of this grand celebration.
Their shared vision is to honor the legacy of Kigezi High School, which has not only served the nation but also shaped the destiny of countless individuals who had passed through its hallowed halls.
The Due date for the grand ceremony is September 30th, 2023, with the anticipation hanging in the air as everyone eagerly await the arrival of the guest of honor, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Ex – Premier Rt Hon JohnPatrick Amama Mbabazi, one of the driving forces behind this historic event, articulates the sentiment perfectly, “Our schools are not just part of our past. They are part of our present and future and are responsible for what we are today.”
His words echoed through the hearts of all who understood the transformative power of education.
Ex – Premier Rt Hon Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, also the Special Envoy for special duties in the office of President, another luminary of the school, adds, “We are celebrating 100 years of Kigezi High School serving the nation.” It was a celebration of a century of dedication to molding young minds and contributing to the growth of the nation.
Professor Mondo Kagonyera, the Kabale University Chancellor also a distinguished scholar and advocate for education, emphasizes the importance of looking forward, saying, “We must reignite the spirit of prioritizing education by our people, for the brain is the most potent raw material to cause emancipation of our people.”
His words served as a rallying cry to continue investing in the future through education.
As the preparations continues, Minister David Bahati reflected on the profound impact of Kigezi High School, not just in their lives but in the broader context.
He remarked, “We must celebrate and thank God for the gift of Kigezi High School and the role it has played and continues to play in our lives, Kigezi, our country, and beyond.”
About the School.
Kigezi High School is a church founded, government sponsored, mixed boarding and day secondary school in Uganda. Kigezi High school is located at Rugarama hill, Kabale District, Western Uganda.
Kigezi High School was established as a primary school in 1922 by the missionaries. It became a Junior Secondary School in 1946 and a Senior Secondary School in 1965. It was intended to instill Christian as well as academic values among the learners.
It has produced various students who are working in all walks of fields across the world as top managers and in other capacities.
Uganda’s cabinet has over 8 ministers who are old students of the school. It is hoped that the school will be the center of learning for the globalized and e-world that we now live in.
Kigezi High School’s aim is to give quality academic and Christian values to students who will be dedicated to the service of God and humanity.
Kigezi High school aims also at being a leading school in Uganda in both academic and co-curricular areas.
Kigezi High school has a wide range of facilities, among them is an ICT lab, Home economics lab, library, basketball coat, football, netball pitches, a school farm and other facilities.
Kigezi High school has different clubs such drama, interact, scripture union, debating and tourism clubs.
