Rubanda District Commissions Shs 750 Million Education Facilities

Rubanda District Local Government has commissioned newly constructed school facilities worth Shs 750 million, marking a significant boost to efforts aimed at improving education standards in the district.

The commissioned projects include two three-classroom blocks at Ruhonwa II Primary School in Hamurwa Town Council and Rubona Primary School in Hamuhambo Town Council, each constructed at a cost of Shs 150 million.

The district also unveiled a girls’ dormitory at Bubare Secondary School in Bubaare Town Council worth Shs 150 million, and a multipurpose hall at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, Kashakyi, also in Bubaare Town Council, valued at Shs 300 million.

Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson, Stephen Ampeire Kasyaba, said the projects were funded by the government under the 2024/2025 financial year and implemented by Civil Workers Construction and Design Company Limited.

He noted that the new facilities are intended to improve the learning environment, especially for schools that had struggled for years with dilapidated classrooms and inadequate learner accommodation.

Kasyaba added that the district has undertaken similar construction works at Mungara Primary School in Muko Sub-county, Kagogo Primary School in Ikumba Sub-county, Nyamiringa Primary School, and Nangaro Primary School in Rubanda Town Council.

He expressed optimism that more schools will benefit once additional funding becomes available.

Gad Kiconco, the head teacher of Ruhonwa II Primary School, welcomed the commissioning of the new classroom block, describing it as a major relief for both learners and teachers.

He noted that classes were frequently disrupted whenever it rained due to leaking roofs in the old structures.
