Last Friday, she distributed pens to all Senior Four (S4) candidates, ensuring they have the necessary tools to succeed in their Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams, which commenced today, Monday, October 14, 2024, under the new competency-based curriculum.

This initiative not only provides essential stationery but also serves as a morale booster, encouraging students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

Meanwhile, a total of 379,748 candidates began their final Uganda Certificate of Education exams today, October 14, at various centers across the country. Of these, 369,601 are taking exams under the new curriculum, while 10,147 will sit for transitional examinations under the old curriculum.

UNEB spokesperson Jeniffer Kalule reported that more females (5,559, representing 54.7%) registered for the examinations under the old curriculum. “The new curriculum has 187,870 female candidates (50.8%), compared to 181,727 male candidates (49.2%),” Kalule noted. She added that the candidates are sitting for exams at 4,168 centers nationwide, including Luzira Upper Prison and Mbarara Prison. All Luzira inmates are participating in the new curriculum examinations, according to Kalule.

She explained that there are 825 special needs education candidates sitting for the exams, with 38 of these taking the transitional exams. “UNEB has made arrangements for all these SNE candidates to receive the necessary support in accordance with their needs,” she said.

Kalule also highlighted that UNEB’s theme this year is “Embracing security and holistic assessment of learners in a dynamic environment,” urging all stakeholders to prioritize the security and sanctity of examinations.
