UCE Exams Begin Without Disruptions in Kabale

KABALE: The distribution and dispatch of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams under the new competency-based curriculum have commenced smoothly in Kabale District, without any disruptions.

Unlike previous years, when heavy rainfall often interfered with the distribution process, this year’s exercise began without weather-related challenges. The distribution of exams started promptly at 8:30 AM at the Kabale Distribution Center, at Kabale Central Police Station, under tight security.

The UCE exams kicked off at 9:00 AM, with candidates sitting for their first paper, Mathematics (456/1). The exams are scheduled to conclude on November 8, 2024, with the Chinese Reading Comprehension and Writing paper (396/1).

Speaking to journalists at the distribution center, Monday Christopher, the head teacher of St. Mary’s College Rushoroza in Kabale Municipality, and Kereson Katongole, head teacher of St. Agatha Girls Secondary School in Kakore, Rubanda District, both expressed confidence in the readiness of their candidates. They noted that the students were well-prepared and briefed, and they anticipate better performance under the new curriculum compared to previous years under the old system.

Nasser Kibuli, the head of the scouting team in Kabale, instructed head teachers to keep their school gates open for scouts to ensure smooth monitoring. He emphasized that no school should engage in any form of malpractice and that scouts must be able to access the exam centers easily to verify that the correct exams are administered according to the UNEB timetable.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, confirmed that the exams were successfully delivered to various distribution centers across the region. He added that both covert and overt officers have been deployed to monitor and ensure the smooth running of the exams.
