Kigali, Rwanda: MoKash, Rwanda’s leading digital savings and loan platform, has unveiled two new value-added features, Lock Savings and Loan Top Up, aimed at strengthening financial resilience, expanding access to responsible digital credit, and empowering millions of Rwandans to plan, save, and grow.

The new offerings are designed to respond to everyday financial realities faced by individuals and small businesses, reinforcing MoKash’s mission to deliver inclusive, flexible, and customer-centric financial solutions.

Flexible Credit with Loan Top Up

The Loan Top Up feature allows customers to access additional funds on an existing loan, within their approved limit, during the first 20 days after disbursement. This innovation removes the need for borrowers to wait for an entire loan cycle to close before accessing more credit.

The feature is particularly useful for customers whose financial needs evolve quickly, such as traders responding to increased market demand or entrepreneurs seizing new opportunities.

MoKash has also introduced Lock Savings, a feature that enables customers to save money for fixed periods ranging from one to twelve months.

By committing funds for a chosen tenure, customers earn competitive interest rates, up to 8 percent per annum, based on their savings balance.

Integrated seamlessly into the MoKash experience on MTN Mobile Money, Lock Savings allows users to transfer funds from their mobile wallet or General Savings account, track balances in real time, and work toward clearly defined financial goals.

We want to help transform short-term income into long-term progress.”

Deepening Digital Financial Inclusion

Since its launch in 2017, MoKash has focused on addressing everyday financial challenges by providing instant access to credit without paperwork, collateral, or lengthy approval processes.

With the introduction of Lock Savings and Loan Top Up, the platform goes further by enabling better planning, improved liquidity management, and stronger financial foundations.

MoKash currently serves more than 5 million customers, with women accounting for 40 percent and youth nearly 60 percent of its user base.
