The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced the resumption of periodic maintenance works on the Kampala Northern Bypass, Phase One, in a move aimed at improving road safety and enhancing the overall driving experience for motorists.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Bageya Waiswa, the works will commence on 13th February 2026 and are expected to last at least two months.
“The maintenance will be carried out along the section between Bwaise Interchange and Namungoona Interchange by M/S Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd on behalf of the Ministry”. He said.
He stated that the planned works will involve removal of the existing asphalt surface, base preparation, priming, and the laying of a new asphalt overlay.
“To allow for safe and efficient execution of the works, the affected section of the carriageway will be fully closed, with traffic temporarily diverted to the opposite side of the road”. He said
Bageya advised motorists using the Northern Bypass to exercise patience, observe all road signage, and follow instructions from traffic personnel deployed on site.
He also encouraged road users to plan their journeys in advance and, where possible, use alternative routes off the Northern Bypass to minimise inconvenience during the construction period.
He expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and understanding, noting that the temporary disruption is necessary to ensure long-term improvements to one of Kampala’s key transport corridors.
