KIGEZI – Religious and political leaders in Kabale District have expressed grave concern regarding the rising number of murder cases within the Kigezi region, particularly those stemming from domestic violence and theft.
These concerns have intensified in the wake of recent incidents. One tragic case involves the murder of an unidentified adult male on August 26, 2023, around 4:00 PM in Rutenga Ward, Central Division, Kabale Municipality in Kabale district. Another distressing incident revolves around the demise of Scovia Kobusingye, a resident of Karengyere Trading Center in Karengyere Parish, Muko Sub County, Rubanda District. Kobusingye tragically lost her life when her husband struck her fatally with a stool during a domestic violence altercation last week.
Reflecting on these distressing events, the Archdeacon of Kamuronko Church of Uganda Archdeaconry, Ven. Bens Aharimpisya, expressed his concern. He lamented that instead of channeling their energy into constructive endeavors, certain individuals are resorting to violence, targeting hardworking individuals to unlawfully seize their belongings.
Addressing this issue, Ven. Bens Aharimpisya stated, “It’s disheartening to witness a trend where individuals are forsaking productive pursuits and opting to harm those who toil diligently. This wave of violence not only claims lives but also deprives families of their rightful possessions.”

Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba, the representative of Ndorwa East in the Parliament, shared his thoughts on this distressing situation. He expressed deep sorrow over the fact that acts of murder, stemming from domestic violence, are staining the behavior of Christians. In addition, there have been reports of theft of domestic animals and agricultural produce.
Hon. Niwagaba emphasized the need for families to involve themselves in commercial farming endeavors on the available land, as a means to keep occupied and reduce such acts.
Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba conveyed his sentiments, stating, “It’s truly disheartening to witness Christians engaging in heinous acts like murder due to domestic conflicts. Furthermore, the theft of animals and crops exacerbates the situation. To counter this, families should actively participate in commercial farming as a constructive outlet for their energies.”
