Political Commissar Appeals for More Defenders Against Natural Disasters in Kisoro

KISORO – The Political Commissar of the 35th Battalion in Kisoro District, Lieutenant Omita Kenan, has emphasized the urgent need for more conservationists in the district to protect its residents from the devastating impacts of natural disasters.

According to Lieutenant Omita, by recruiting more conservationists, the district can safeguard its residents and properties from the destructive forces of floods, landslides, and environmental degradation.

Lieutenant Omita made this plea today while receiving a generous donation of over 1,000 Grevillea trees valued at 10 million shillings from the Nyanamo Community Conservation and Development Organization.

This initiative aims to promote conservation efforts within the district.Kateriteri Army Barracks, a part of the 35th Infantry Battalion in Nyakabande and situated in Kisoro district, was the recipient of these valuable trees.

In his appreciation, Lieutenant Omita commended the Nyanamo Community Conservation and Development Organization for their unwavering commitment to conservation activities in the district and their close partnership with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The trees were delivered by the chairperson of the Nyanamo Community Conservation and Development Organization, Duhimbaze Ramech, and were received by Major Bosco Aguzo, the second-in-command of the 35th Battalion, and Lieutenant Omita Kenan, the UPDF Political Commissar for Kisoro District.

Duhimbaze expressed his organization’s dedication to supporting the government in creating a favorable ecosystem for all by focusing on the restoration of green cover.

He outlined the organization’s ambitious plans to lead a district-wide tree planting campaign, aimed at mitigating the risk of landslides during the rainy seasons, effectively combatting soil erosion.And thus, the commitment to conservation and safeguarding the district’s natural environment continues.
