Minister Mateke Urges Kisoro Health Workers to Enhance Service Quality as UPDF Completes Ugx 558 M Ward

Minister Mateke made this call on Monday during the inauguration of the Bunagana General Ward at Bunagana Health Centre II, located in Bunagana Town Council, Kisoro district. The ward, completed by the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces Engineering Brigade at a cost exceeding 558 million shillings over a two-year period, was initiated following a memorandum signed in April 2022, handing over the project to the UPDF Brigade for construction.

Minister Mateke appealed to both the health facility administration and the district authorities to collaborate effectively in maintaining the newly commissioned building. She emphasized its significance in benefiting not only the residents of Bunagana but also the entire community, including refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

“Health workers play a crucial role in our communities, and it is essential that we enhance our efforts to provide quality services,” Minister Mateke stressed during the commissioning.

Colonel Eng. Godfrey Tukamwakiira, Chief of the UPDF Engineering Brigade, highlighted their extensive ongoing projects totaling 378 billion shillings across 285 sites. He encouraged the Kisoro district engineer to meticulously document the requirements of the facility and to foster cooperation aimed at enhancing health services.

“We are committed to ensuring that these projects contribute to improving healthcare infrastructure and services,” Colonel Tukamwakiira remarked on the building’s completion.
