RUKIGA – The escalating number of inpatients and deliveries, coupled with a shortage of beds, has become a pressing concern for authorities at Mparo Health Center IV in Rukiga District.
In response to this crisis, Rukiga District leaders sought urgent intervention from the government, specifically the Ministry of Health, urging the acceleration of plans to elevate Mparo Health Centre IV to hospital status. The aim is to enhance healthcare services within the district.
As the primary facility in the district targeted for an upgrade to a district hospital, Mparo Health Centre IV currently redirects patients with significant complications to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. To address the immediate challenges, the health Center received a donation of essential healthcare items, including 15 hospital beds, tables, medical storage cabinets, and an infant incubator.
During the donation ceremony held yesterday, Dr. Mucugunzi Godfrey, the in charge of Mparo Health Centre IV, disclosed that they are confronted with an average daily influx of 30 patients, exceeding the facility’s bed capacity. Consequently, some patients are compelled to sleep on the floor due to the overwhelming demand for services.
