KABALE – Police in Kabale District are investigating the death of 22-year-old Andrew Byamukama, an employee at Bell Depot Kigongi in Central Division, Kabale Municipality.
Byamukama, a resident of Kanyankwanzi Cell, Nyakagyera Parish, Kyanamira Sub County, Kabale District, was found dead this morning at approximately 08:00 AM, floating in the waters of River Kiruruma.
Happy Arinaitwe, the Chairperson of Kanyinaburiba Village in Kyanamira Parish, reported the incident to Kabale Police Station.
A team, including homicide detectives, fire officers, and SOCO led by Deputy D/CID/O D/IP Magara Richard, was dispatched to the scene (SDREF: 20/26/10/2023), examined, and documented the situation.
The body was recovered from the water and transported to Kabale Region Referral Hospital mortuary for a postmortem to determine the cause of death.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson, revealed that the scene was visited, examined, and documented. The postmortem results indicated strangulation, confirming it as a murder.
Maate further confirmed that the deceased’s body has been handed over to relatives for a proper burial.
He asserted that inquiries to identify suspects and facilitate their arrest for prosecution are on going.
