Sheikh Kassim Kamugisha, a former Kabale Municipality parliamentary candidate, has been appointed Patriotic Officer (PO) 104 by the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
Kamugisha, who is also an executive member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, is among a new cohort of leaders and mobilisers assigned Patriotic Officer numbers by PLU chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is also the Chief of Defence Forces.
The new appointments were announced on Tuesday by PLU Secretary General Twalla Fadhil.
Kamugisha was assigned PO104, alongside other prominent figures including Nzaire Shedrack Kaguta (PO100), Lukman Mwerere (PO101), Minister Adonia Ayebare (PO102) and Ambrose Kibuuka (PO103).
Other appointees include former Finance minister Matia Kasaija, who was assigned PO119, Moses Kipsiro (PO166), and Kanatta Richard, known for the Boda Boda Initiative, who was assigned PO181.
In a message congratulating the new Patriotic Officers, Fadhil urged them to serve with diligence, loyalty and commitment to PLU and Uganda.
“We congratulate all the newly appointed Patriotic Officers and urge them to serve with diligence, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to PLU and our Motherland,” Fadhil said.
Kamugisha welcomed his appointment and thanked Gen Kainerugaba for recognising him.
“Gen. Kainerugaba, thank you for recognizing and awarding me PO104. Twalla Fadil, blessings forever,” Kamugisha wrote on his X account on Wednesday.
The PLU’s Patriotic Officer system is intended to recognise individuals considered to have contributed to Uganda’s development and to promote patriotism and mobilisation across different sectors.
The latest appointments bring the list of Patriotic Officers to PO181, although the announcement contains a duplicate PO169 entry assigned to both Mauso Brian and Ambassador Muhindo Muthahi.
