RUBANDA: Minister of Finance (General Duties) Henry Musasizi has announced that the government will pay the delayed salaries of civil servants next week.
Minister Musasizi, who also serves as the Rubanda East Legislator, made this statement on Saturday while addressing residents of Kyokyezo Parish in Nyamweru Subcounty, Rubanda District, where he was monitoring the progress of the Kyokyezo-Butambi road construction.
In Kabale District, primary school teachers went on strike this week over unpaid salaries for June and July. Pupils who reported to school on Monday and Tuesday were sent home due to the absence of teachers.
While addressing locals at Kyokyezo Trading Centre, Minister Musasizi noted that the salary delay is a nationwide issue, not just limited to Kabale. He discouraged strikes and advised teachers to always seek information from the government before engaging in such actions. He highlighted that pension arrears are a significant issue in Kabale District and assured that they would be addressed.
Minister Musasizi stated that the government has budgeted for pensions and gratuities in this financial year. He emphasized that the issue of pension arrears should no longer arise and urged those affected to work with the Ministry of Finance to clear the arrears and ensure timely payment of monthly pensions and gratuities.
