Kabale Businessman Murdered, Police Launch Manhunt

Security has been heightened in Kabale District as police launch investigations into the suspected murder of a local businessman, Geoffrey Rutambira, a resident of Kakooko Village, Bukoora Parish, Kitumba Sub-county.

Rutambira’s lifeless body was discovered on Saturday at around 9:50 pm in an eucalyptus forest at Kabumba Village, Bukoora Parish, by unknown assailant(s).

According to preliminary police reports, at about 10:00 pm, a one Muhwezi Nelson was returning from Kakooko Village, where he had gone to demand money from a local resident, when he noticed light inside the eucalyptus trees by the roadside and became suspicious.

After about ten minutes, he gathered courage and moved towards the spot, only to find the body of Mzee Rutambira. Muhwezi immediately alerted one Turyahewa Sharon, who rushed to the scene, confirmed the incident, and reported the matter to Kabale Central Police Station.

A team of detectives, together with the K-9 Unit, swiftly responded, visited and examined the scene, and cordoned it off for proper documentation.

A police sniffer dog was introduced to assist in tracking the suspects, but the effort was frustrated after it was established that locals had already tampered with the scene.

The body was later retrieved and taken to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital mortuary, where a postmortem was conducted by the Regional Police Surgeon before it was handed over to the family for a decent burial.

Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Elly Maate, said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the assailants so they can be brought to book.

He added that inquiries are ongoing and appealed to members of the public with any information that could aid the investigations to volunteer it to the nearest police station.
