Kabale-Kisoro Road Works Suspended, Causing Transportation Concerns

RUBANDA – The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) engineer for Kabale area, Alison Abenabo, has shed light on the suspension of repair works on the damaged section of the Kabale-Kisoro road at Hamurwa Town Council in Rubanda District.

The delay in completion of designs has been cited as the reason behind the pause in construction. On May 4, a segment of the road at Bwaara village in Hamurwa Town Council suffered extensive damage due to heavy rainfall, causing a standstill in traffic moving between Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Recognizing the critical nature of this roadway, Abenabo had previously attributed the holdup to the prolonged procurement process for essential raw materials. However, she assured our reporter today that work to rectify the damaged section will soon commence.

Amidst these developments, the Rubanda District Chairperson, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, has voiced his concerns over UNRA’s apparent delay in repairing the damaged section. Kasyaba emphasizes that the prolonged inactivity is adversely affecting transportation along this vital route connecting multiple countries.

Kasyaba expressed bewilderment over UNRA’s failure to rehabilitate one of the diversion routes, the 20-kilometer Kabale-Lake roads, despite repeated appeals from district leaders.
