Kabale Police Retrieves Dead Body from River Rwabakazi

KABALE – Police in Kabale District responded to a suspected drowning incident involving a 37-year-old man whose body was discovered floating in the waters of River Rwabakazi in Rushaki cell, Kyanamira Sub County, within Kabale Municipality on October 30, 2023.

The deceased, identified as Charles Twinomujuni, also known as Karoli, was a resident of Rubira “1” cell in Katokye parish, Kyanamira Sub County, Kabale District. According to a police statement, the lifeless body of Twinomujuni was first observed floating in the River Rwabakazi on the mentioned date. The OC Mwanjari police station was promptly notified, who, in turn, informed Kabale Central Police station.

In response, the Homicide team, led by OC CID D/sp MUKAMA, was dispatched to Rushaki cell. The team, accompanied by the fire brigade officer and the police surgeon, worked together to retrieve the body from the water. Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, disclosed that the deceased, identified as Charles Twinomujuni alias Karoli, had a history of mental disorder, as confirmed by his brother, Niwagaba Maxim.

After a thorough examination, the body was positively identified and subsequently handed over to the deceased’s relatives for a dignified burial. Maate emphasized that the police took the necessary steps to ensure proper handling of the situation and the respectful conclusion of the incident.
