The Electoral Commission has announced that the nomination of candidates for the 2026 Local Government Council Elections will take place from September 3 to September 24, 2025.
The exercise will be conducted at the designated venues for each council level, running on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Julius Mucunguzi the spokesperson of the electoral commission urged all persons aspiring to familiarize themselves with the requirements for nomination for each elective position, as outlined in the Guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission.
“Aspirants can collect copies of the nomination forms and the above guidelines from the District Electoral Commission offices in each district across the country, or obtain soft copies of the forms and guidelines online”. He said.
Speaking on Monday, Uganda Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma urged candidates and their supporters to adhere strictly to the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission, as well as laws regulating traffic and public order.
Kituuma emphasized the importance of ensuring that nomination activities do not disrupt or inconvenience other road users, and called on candidates to maintain peace throughout the process.
“All candidates must refrain from acts of hooliganism to ensure a peaceful environment. We strongly warn against the involvement of rogue youths, commonly known as egaali, during this period,” he said.
He further encouraged candidates and their supporters to cooperate with police to facilitate smooth coordination and security during the nomination period.
