As the hearing of petitions from the NRM party primaries enters its second day, the Director of Legal Services, Counsel Enoch Barata, has announced that over 120 petitions have already been handled, with more than 15 petitioners voluntarily withdrawing their cases.
Addressing the media at the NRM Legal Tribunal offices on Plot 30, Kyadondo Road in Nakasero on Wednesday, Barata noted that the process has been smooth and efficient, attributing the progress to the consolidation of similar petitions which has saved time.
“So far, we have concluded 120 petitions, and about 15 have been withdrawn. This is a positive sign that our candidates recognize the electoral process as free and fair,” Barata said.
He emphasized that the tribunal is expected to deliver verdicts within seven days of the hearing date, although the rules provide for an extension if necessary.
Barata also issued a strong warning against fraudsters who solicit money from petitioners with false promises of influencing tribunal outcomes.
He stressed that all petitions are handled exclusively by authorized tribunal panels at the NRM offices.
