Police in Kigezi Sub-region have warned candidates, their agents and polling officials against intimidation, threats and interference as elections for Village Women Council Committees get underway.

The committees comprise a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Publicity Secretary and Secretary for Finance.

According to Electoral Commission guidelines, voting should take place in a public or open place within the village, with voters lining up behind their preferred candidates, their representatives, portraits or symbols, in accordance with Section 111(2) of the Local Government Act, Cap 243, as amended.

While briefing the media at the Kigezi Region Police Headquarters in Kabale District on Thursday, Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson SP Nelson Tumushime said all territorial commanders across the region had been directed to deploy officers to maintain law and order throughout the electoral process.
