President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday evening held a meeting with the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Buganda Parliamentary Caucus at State House, Entebbe, where he discussed key developmental and service delivery issues affecting the region and the country at large.
In his address, President Museveni urged the MPs to prioritize defending the legitimate interests of Ugandans, especially the people of Buganda.
“You, the new leaders, need to defend the legitimate interests of the people of Uganda and Buganda because Buganda is the major beneficiary of the NRM revolution, and anybody who does not see that is an enemy of Buganda,” he said.
The President emphasized that Buganda has witnessed massive transformation due to the peace ushered in by the NRM government, citing improved road networks, growing industries, and other developments across the country.
He commended the MPs for their efforts in sensitizing communities and monitoring the implementation of government programs.
Museveni, however, urged the caucus to now shift its focus to improving household incomes, saying wealth creation is the key to transforming Uganda.
“Strategically, Buganda is the direct beneficiary of NRM, so if all the people get involved in creating wealth, Uganda will be the most developed country in the world,” he remarked.
The President also highlighted land fragmentation as one of the most pressing challenges facing Buganda and the nation, warning that it continues to hinder agricultural productivity and long-term development.
During the meeting, Hon. Migadde Robert Ndugwa, Chairperson of the NRM Buganda Parliamentary Caucus and MP for Buvuma County, presented the group’s Memorandum of Understanding to the President.
He thanked Museveni for his exceptional leadership in steering Uganda’s progress and informed him that the caucus has been actively engaging communities at constituency level to address local concerns and monitor government projects.
The NRM Deputy Secretary General, Hon. Rose Namayanja, also applauded the President for his guidance on development and service delivery.
She further commended the caucus for their unity and commitment, urging them to work even harder to deliver tangible results for the people and strengthen the party’s support in the region.
