Unknown thieves have broken into St Andrews Cathedral Seseme, the seat of the Muhabura Diocese, and stolen musical instruments and other equipment worth about Shs30 million.
The incident is believed to have occurred on Thursday night after the suspected thieves blocked the doors of the cathedral’s vestry before gaining access to the room where the equipment was kept.
According to the cathedral’s Sub-Dean, Rev Canon Phillip Muhire, the stolen items include three keyboards, a mixer, a computer and other musical equipment.
“We received the information this morning and, upon checking, discovered that the vestry had been blocked and several musical instruments were missing,” Rev Canon Muhire said.
Rev Canon Muhire appealed to residents to desist from stealing and instead engage in productive activities to earn a living.
He said stealing church property not only affects the congregation but also disrupts activities that benefit the wider community.
