The unclaimed bodies of victims of the fatal King David Junior School bus crash have been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital to facilitate identification and other necessary management processes.
The Uganda Police Force said the bodies were moved following the July 16, 2026 crash at Chekwatit Village along the Kapchorwa–Mbale Road, which claimed the lives of 24 people, including the bus driver.
The Isuzu bus was carrying pupils and staff of King David Junior School on an educational trip to Sipi Falls when it was involved in the fatal crash.
Police said investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing, with findings expected to be communicated once the inquiries are concluded.
Following the tragedy, the Ministry of Education and Sports directed the suspension of all school trips. Police urged school administrators to comply with the directive and await further guidance from the Ministry.
However, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, the Uganda Police Spokesperson clarified that the directive does not affect public transport buses, as it applies only to vehicles transporting learners on school trips.
“We extend condolences to the bereaved families and the King David Junior School community, while wishing those injured a speedy and full recovery”. He said.
