The Diocese of Kinkiizi has strongly denied what it describes as false and inflammatory allegations made by Rev. Justus Tibesigwa, an LC5 Chairman aspirant for Kanungu District, including the claim that the Diocese orchestrated his alleged kidnapping.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rev. Canon Gad Tibeijuka, the Diocesan Secretary and official spokesperson of the Diocese, dismissed the accusations, instead accusing Rev. Tibesigwa of deliberately spreading falsehoods for political gain.
Rev. Tibeijuka claimed that Rev. Tibesigwa had stage-managed his own arrest in a calculated attempt to gain public sympathy, adding that such conduct is inconsistent with how the Church resolves matters.
“The Diocese firmly stands on the principles of truth, justice, prayer, and due process in all our dealings,” said Rev. Tibeijuka. “We categorically reject and denounce these false accusations as baseless propaganda aimed at sowing confusion, division, and tribal hatred during this politically sensitive season.”
He urged Christians and the general public to distance themselves from what he called deceitful narratives and instead uphold peace, unity, and truth.
“As we approach Election Day this Thursday, I appeal to every citizen to exercise their civic duty with prayerful discernment. Do not be swayed by religious bias, tribal emotions, or personal vendettas,” he said.
“Instead, evaluate each candidate based on their manifesto, integrity, capacity to serve, and track record. Ask yourself: Can someone who struggled to serve the Church with humility, and whose actions raised serious concerns about trust and accountability, be entrusted with a public office that requires integrity and visionary leadership?”
He concluded his remarks by quoting Romans 13:1 (NIV): “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.”
“Therefore, choose leaders with wisdom and conscience, knowing that God honors righteous leadership and judges the intents of the heart,” he added.
Efforts to reach Rev. Tibesigwa for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to repeated phone calls.
