KABALE: The Vicar General of Kabale Diocese, Msgr. John Vianney Sunday, has cautioned confirmants in Kabale District against being swayed by the rise of new, mushrooming religions.

Msgr. Sunday issued the warning on Tuesday while confirming 430 Confirmants into the Catholic faith at Holy Family Buhara Catholic Parish, located in Buhara Sub-county, Ndorwa East County. He was representing the Kabale Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, who had traveled to represent the Archbishop of Mbarara Archdiocese, His Grace Lambert Beinomugisha, at the funeral mass for the late Fr. Wycliffe Byamugisha. Fr. Byamugisha tragically died in a car accident at Kabagoma, along the Ibanda-Mbarara highway, at the age of 36, having served as a priest for only six years.

In his homily, Msgr. Sunday emphasized the importance of the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist, calling them unchangeable marks of the Catholic faith. He urged the confirmants to respect these sacraments and warned the faithful to avoid sin and criminal activities, especially violations of the fifth commandment, which forbids murder and suicide.

Msgr. Sunday expressed concern about the rise in serious crimes among some church members, going as far as to say that they were “scandalizing even the devil.” He condemned witchcraft-related murders within the community and warned against excessive alcohol consumption, describing it as a form of self-destruction. He stressed the distinction between sins and crimes, noting that “all crimes are sins, but not all sins are crimes.”
