Rev. Fr. Tubiheruhanga Deogratias, the coordinator of Promic Kabale Diocese, has urged Christians to remain hopeful and trust in God when facing challenges, saying no problem is permanent.

In his homily during the Second Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church Parish in Kabale Municipality on Sunday, Fr Tubiheruhanga said Christians should remain confident that God is with them even when they face uncertainty, debts, family conflicts, workplace challenges and difficult decisions.

He said people sometimes find themselves “in prison” because of debts, strained relationships, business difficulties or conflicts with people around them.

“Whether we are placed between a hard rock and a wall, never forget that God is with you. That is the most important thing,” Fr Tubiheruhanga said.

He drew the lesson from St Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, saying Paul remained hopeful despite being in prison and being uncertain about what would happen to him.

Fr Tubiheruhanga said Christians should similarly remain faithful when they are uncertain about the outcome of their investments, businesses, relationships or other decisions.

He said the presence of God should give Christians courage to face difficult situations without losing hope.

The priest also reflected on the first reading from Isaiah, which speaks about the restoration of the Israelites after exile.

He said the return of the Israelites demonstrated that suffering and difficult circumstances have an end.

“It means that there is nothing without an end. There is no challenge that is permanent that will not end. Every problem or challenge has a solution,” he said.

Fr Tubiheruhanga, however, urged Christians to learn from their challenges and avoid repeating mistakes that previously caused them suffering.

He said God gives people second chances to correct their mistakes and start new lives.

“God gave you an opportunity to come back, but never fall back into the same mistake,” he said.

The priest said challenges can sometimes serve as opportunities for Christians to strengthen their faith, learn important lessons and prepare for a better future.

“Sometimes God is testing our faith so that we come out strong. Secondly, God is helping us to learn, because some things we shall never learn until we make errors,” he said.

He encouraged Christians going through difficult moments to seek God, remain patient and trust that their circumstances can change.

Fr Tubiheruhanga also urged Christians to avoid jealousy and comparing their lives with those of others, saying everyone receives blessings and opportunities at different times.

He encouraged Christians to recognise and appreciate their own blessings, including good health and the ability to work, move and participate in community and church activities.
