According to Sister Bernadette, the name “Cana” originates from the biblical wedding at Cana in Galilee, where Jesus turned water into wine. This new wine symbolizes the fresh love and joy couples receive during Cana seminars.

The three-day seminar, organized by the Kabale Diocesan Family Ministry from September 8th to 13th, marked the 9th annual event since the Cana program was introduced.

Testimonies from couples reflect the profound impact Cana has had on the Catholic families throughout the diocese. One such couple, Mr. and Mrs. Byaruhanga Aloysius and Gloria, expressed their gratitude, saying that Cana has been the foundation upon which their marriage has thrived.

During the closing Mass at Bukinda Catholic Parish on Friday, Rev. Fr. John Byamukama emphasized the importance of tolerance within families. He urged couples to accept and cope with their differences, as everyone comes from different backgrounds.

Fr. John also encouraged couples to be the “salt and light of the earth.” As part of the Mass, wedded couples renewed their marital vows and lit candles as a symbol of their renewed love and commitment.

The retreat concluded with a Cana feast, reminiscent of the wedding at Cana in the Bible, featuring a grand supper. Husbands were tasked with serving their wives as a demonstration of the renewed love in their marriages.

In her closing remarks, Sister Bernadette Atukwase, head of the Family Ministry in Kabale Diocese, called upon more couples to join Cana for the betterment of society. She acknowledged the ministry’s growth since its inception, noting that what began with 27 couples in 2015 has expanded to over 1,000.
