Chrispino Behimbisa: Footballer -Turned Sports Journalist Captivating Audiences On and Off the Field

Behimbisa began his football career at St. John’s Baptist Memorial Kahoko in 2010 as a left-back. In 2012, he moved to Rushasha Secondary School, where he was recruited to play in the Rukungiri District Post-Primaries as a center-back.

He later joined Nyakagyeme Secondary School and Kashenyi Secondary School in Rukungiri District, where he captained the team and led them to regional competitions in Kabale District in 2014.

He also played for local football clubs, including Kahoko Football Club in the fourth division, and Kyabitero FC, with whom he won the Nyakagyeme Church of Uganda Cup in 2015.

Despite a promising football career, Behimbisa retired from active play in 2017 after enrolling at the Freedom Media Institute in Kabale District to pursue a journalism course.

In 2017, Behimbisa launched his broadcasting career at Rubanda FM. He later worked at Freedom Radio in 2021 and Hope Radio in 2023. While in Kabale, he was part of the Kabale Media Practitioners’ football team.

Known for his calm demeanor and exceptional football commentary skills, Behimbisa was selected by StarTimes to provide Runyankore-Rukiga commentary during Euro 2020, held in Kampala.

From 2022 to 2024, he served as the media officer for Kigezi Homeboys in the Western Region League before joining Country Radio 87.6FM Rukungiri as a sports presenter, football commentator, and RR News anchor.

On September 15, 2024, Behimbisa scored his 18th career goal, a consolation goal in a 2-1 friendly match loss between Country Radio staff and Nyakibale Hospital staff at St. Gerald’s Secondary School, Rukungiri. Remarkably, it was the first time he scored with his foot.
