The suspect, Allan Kanyesigye, a resident of Kabirizi Village, Kitojo Parish, Rwamucucu Sub-county, Rukiga District, is accused of libel against the Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Honorable Roland Ndyomugyenyi Bish. He allegedly forwarded a document on social media claiming that Honorable Ndyomugyenyi is among the corrupt members of Parliament.
Kanyesigye was arrested on Tuesday by police in Rukiga District on orders from Honorable Ndyomugyenyi while at Kabirizi Trading Center and was taken to court. He appeared before the Kabale Grade One Magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Julius Mutabazi, on Tuesday evening.
Kanyesigye requested the court to grant him bail. His Worship Mutabazi granted him bail of 300,000 shillings and non-cash bail of one million shillings after Kanyesigye produced two sureties. The case has been adjourned to September 3, 2024.
Speaking to our reporter, Kanyesigye said that he was arrested by police at his residence on charges of computer misuse. He said that police revealed that he had forwarded a social media document accusing Honorable Ndyomugyenyi of being among the corrupt.
