Kigezi High School Gears Up for Centenary Celebrations with President Museveni as Chief Guest

KABALE – Kigezi High School and Kigezi High School Primary in Kabale Municipality have begun preparations for their upcoming Centenary Celebrations.

The Head Teacher of Kigezi High School, Abraham Akampurira, announced that the grand event is scheduled for September 30th this year, with President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni expected to attend as the Chief Guest.

Akampurira emphasized that the Centenary Celebrations hold great significance in recognizing the profound impact the school(s) have had on society over the past 100 years.

Furthermore, he revealed plans for the construction of a multipurpose hall, which will include an ICT laboratory at Kigezi High School.

 

Akampurira stated that they aim to raise at least 3 billion Shillings, the estimated cost of the project, during the centenary celebrations.

To mark the school’s 100-year milestone, on June 24th, members of the Kigezi High School Old Students Association league, led by Association President Counsel Chris Nuwandinda, also known as Culture, who serves as the Assistant Commissioner in the Ministry of Local Government, paid a courtesy visit to the school. They generously donated a full set of jerseys as the school hosted its annual sports day.

During the sports day, Counsel Kiconco Patrick Katabaazi, the hopeful Member of Parliament for Rukiga District, graced the event as the chief guest.

 

He encouraged the students to maintain discipline and work hard to uphold the school’s reputation.

He thanked the school administration for maintaining this long and cherished tradition of school sports day

 

As a token of appreciation, Counsel Katabaazi awarded certificates to all students who participated in the day’s events.

Kigezi High School is a church founded, government sponsored, mixed boarding and day secondary school in Uganda.

Kigezi High School was established as a primary school in 1922 by the missionaries. It became a Junior Secondary School in 1946 and a Senior Secondary School in 1965. It was intended to instill Christian as well as academic values among the learners.

 

It has produced various students who are working in all walks of fields across the world as top managers and in other capacities.

 

Uganda’s cabinet has over 8 ministers who are old students of the school. It is hoped that the school will be the center of learning for the globalized and e-world that we now live in.

 

Kigezi High School’s aim is to give quality academic and Christian values to students who will be dedicated to the service of God and humanity.

Kigezi High school aims also at being a leading school in Uganda in both academic and co-curricular areas.

 

Kigezi High school has a wide range of facilities, among them is an ICT lab, home economics lab, library, basketball coat, football, netball pitches, a school farm and other facilities.

 

Some of the country’s outstanding personalities like the late Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile (the Governor of the Bank of Uganda), Former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda, Prof. Augustus Nuwagaba, former presidential candidates Dr. Kiiza Besigye, Amama Mbabazi and Abed Bwanika among others studied from Kigezi High School.
