12,217 Boda-bodas impounded country-wide during police crackdown.

KAMPALA:  A total of 12,217 motorcycles country-wide have been impounded since 7th to 12th November 2022 when a country wide operation on Boda-Boda Cyclists started to limit the high rate of accidents in the country.

The Traffic police spokesperson Faridah Nampiima says, the operation on motorcycles, mainly targeted crash/safety helmets and retro-reflective jackets. Nampiima said this today in press briefing with Journalists in Kampala.

“We are on day Eight of the operation on motorcycles, mainly targeting crash/safety helmets and retro-reflective jackets. The operation has resulted in impounding 12,217 motorcycles country-wide in the last six days from 07th to 12th November 2022.” Nampiima said.

According to Nampiima, a total number of 10,167 EPS tickets were issued to offenders while 2050 motorcycles are pending at the stations.

She revealed that the operation will continue to impound those breaking road safety guidelines.

“We would like to thank the general public for their support, we equally thank the ridders who have complied”. Nampiima Added.

Nampiima also instructed all those operating drones as PSV taxi especially along Entebbe Road and Jinja Road yet they don’t have the required license to operate and their vehicles don’t have a checked band to operate as taxis to stop immediately.

“You have been given two days by Wednesday 16th Nov 2022. We are starting our operations and all those who will be arrested under this operation will be taken to court. None of them will be issued an EPS ticket.” Nampiima Sounded.

She urged all those that want to operate as taxis to comply with the requirements by going to the Ministry of Transport and Works, register and license their vans to operate as PSV’s taxis.
