Police in Kasese District are investigating the death of a 34-year-old builder whose decomposed body was discovered in his house in Mpondwe-Lhubiriha Town Council.

Thomas Mbalabahi, a resident of Kyambogho Cell, was found dead in his bed at about 10pm on Saturday, August 29, according to police.

Rwenzori East Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate said the deceased is suspected to have been strangled.

Police said the body was discovered by Muhunga Geofrey, who had gone to look for Mbalabahi after hiring him to plaster his house on August 31.

“On August 29 at around 10pm, Muhunga Geofrey went to Nyabugando Trading Centre to trace the deceased. He later proceeded to his home where he found the door open,” Maate said in a statement on Sunday.

He added that Muhunga called out to Mbalabahi several times but received no response before entering the house, where he found him lying dead on his bed.

Muhunga alerted neighbours and the area chairman, Muhindo Jacob, who reported the matter to Bwera Police Station.

Police officers visited the scene and retrieved the body, which was taken to Bwera Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

The examination established that Mbalabahi had been strangled, police said.

Maate said inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify and arrest the suspects.

He appealed to members of the public with information that could help investigators to come forward.

“Whoever has information that can lead to clues and those involved should volunteer it so that justice is done,” Maate said.
