KABALE: Kabale Municipality political landscape was on Saturday thrown into a heated clash as Sam Arinaitwe, the LC3 Central Division Chairman, and Ronald Ian Mugisha, Kabale District Deputy Speaker, locked horns over the coveted Kabale Municipality Mayor ship seat.
Both Arinaitwe and Mugisha have made their intentions clear to vie for the Mayor ship in the upcoming 2026 elections, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown. Their ambitions clash with the incumbent Mayor, Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, who is eyeing a third term in office.
The tension between the two contenders came to a head during a somber moment at the sendoff service of Arinaitwe’s mother at St. Philip’s Estates Bugongi Church of Uganda. Arinaitwe, while acknowledging dignitaries, publicly addressed Mugisha, urging him to reconsider his aspirations for the Mayorship and instead focus on a second term as a councilor, accusing him of greed.
“Mugisha informed me of his intentions to run for the Mayorship of Kabale Municipality. Yet, he’s barely completed his first term as a councilor. That reeks of greed! Be contented with your current role,” Arinaitwe declared, pointedly addressing Mugisha.

In response, Mugisha, who also serves as the LC5 Councilor for Southern Division in Kabale Municipality, hit back at Arinaitwe’s accusations, vehemently denying any greediness on his part. He retaliated by suggesting that Arinaitwe’s own desire to cling to his position as Chairman of Central Division reflects a similar sense of greed and entitlement.
“It’s preposterous to label me as greedy. If that’s the case, then by Arinaitwe’s logic, he should remain contented as Central Division Chairman,” Mugisha retorted, insinuating that Arinaitwe’s motives might be driven by a desire to exploit taxpayer funds, a practice Mugisha adamantly opposes.
Mugisha then emphasized his belief that leadership is a divine calling and expressed his commitment to fostering unity, transparency, and development within Kabale Municipality. He dismissed the notion of leveraging familial or social affiliations for political gain, asserting his dedication to serving the interests of all residents.
