KISORO – The Chief Magistrate’s court in Kisoro District, Presided over by His Worship Komakech Kenneth, has handed a 14- Month jail sentence to a 21-year-old man identified as Vian Ndongereye for committing assault.
The convicted individual, Ndongereye, hails from Kabitojo village, Kageyo Parish, Nyanamo Town Council in Kisoro District. His crime involved assaulting Byarugaba Didas, who resides at the same address. The incident occurred on the 12th of June, 2023.
Appearing before the court on Tuesday, Ndongereye humbly requested His Worship for a lenient sentence, citing his responsibility to care for his family. However, his plea fell on deaf ears.
In response, His Worship Komakech addressed the court, emphasizing that such instances of assault are regrettably common within our communities. He highlighted the necessity of imposing penalties upon those found guilty to serve as a deterrent and to educate others.
Prior to this judgment, the convict had spent three months in remand at Kisoro government prison. In light of the gravity of the offense, the Chief Magistrate decided to impose a 14-month prison sentence on Ndongereye.
