SOROTI: Police in Soroti City West Division are investigating the murder of 45-year-old Ekuju Anthony, a resident of Ajumula Cell, Agama Ward. The suspect, Ekanu Samuel, a boda-boda rider from Agama Cell, is alleged to have assaulted Ekuju following an altercation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nachuha Damalie, Regional Police Commander for East Kyoga, confirmed the incident, which took place on October 30, 2024, around 10:00 p.m. at Agama Moru Trading Center in Soroti City West Division.
According to the police report filed by Eripu Denis, a 35-year-old driver and resident of Ajumula “A” Cell, Ekuju was moving erratically along the road when he encountered Ekanu on his motorcycle. Witnesses allege that Ekanu became irritated by Ekuju’s behavior, prompting him to park his motorcycle, confront Ekuju, and slap him. The blow reportedly caused Ekuju to fall, hitting his head on the ground.
Ekuju was transported to Joint Clinic for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries at around 3:05 a.m. His body was subsequently taken to Bethesda Hospital for a postmortem examination.
A police team led by Detective Assistant Superintendent of Police (D/ASP) Lwembawo Stephen, the Division’s CID officer, along with a Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCCO), visited the crime scene to gather evidence. ACP Nachuha confirmed that Ekanu is currently in custody for questioning as investigations continue.
